Hello, net-ling.

You have reached the personal weblog of
Saptarshi Chakraborty.

Pull a chair. Look around if you want. Or are you one of those source code-diggers? Go ahead. Help yourself. Just don't judge me. The site is in the working, you see? I know, I know. That's what they all say, right? But I swear, it's true.

Anyway, make yourself comfortable. And oh, thanks for dropping by.

I love the Web.

I believe that the Web is the greatest creation of mankind (and women-kind too, to keep the spirit of inclusivity going) to date. It is democratic, free, anarchic and beautiful. I read a lot on web-standards, web-development and browsers. I admire companies that work on keeping the web open and free.

You can go through my reading list. Or if you are short on time you could check out the articles I share from time to time.

I love design.

Be it beautifully designed web pages, elegant type-setting, automobiles, or content. I read about typography and how to implement typographic principles better on the modern web.

There are so many places in our everyday lives that can be made better by paying a little more attention to how we use typefaces. If that sounds interesting to you head over to the reading list.

I love food.

I believe that nothing is more important than knowing and caring about what one eats. What (and how) one eats defines who one is. Whenever I go to a new place I like to check out the local market. It is the best place to get to know a place. Like a true Bong I have grown up in a family that fusses over food from morning till night. I bake my bread. I churn my mayonnaise (yes, not butter - not yet).

Like Bourdain, I believe that the Pig is a noble animal. Respect the Pig, I say.

I love photography.

I love photographs. Taking good photographs require patience, some technical know-how and above all a love for the subject being photographed. While I appreciate the effort and skill required to take photographs of nature, or wildlife, I find them underwhelming.

The photographs I love best are invariably of people or of cities. There is something about the madness of a city and its people that appeals to me.
